A little bit of airbrushing?

Airbrush

Okay so we’re all guilty of doing a lil DIY photoshop on our pics from time to time so why point the finger at celeb magazines when they do it???
Well maybe it’s because these magazines do it that we feel we will never be good enough and therefore judge our own holiday snaps and compare them to these super toned, super tanned and super gorgeous models and celebs. We all know it’s just airbrushing and they don’t really look like that so why do we feel like we have to live up to these standards?
Is it because this is what the industry considers “perfection”?
Well if it is then even the supermodels can’t seem to fit the mould.
Many people in the publishing industry claim that nobody wants to open a page and see some fat, spotty, pale person, but at the same time we don’t want to look at these overly beautiful people who make us all feel bad about ourselves.
Although they deny reports that disorders such as Body dismorphia, anorexia and bulima have nothing to do with them it’s clear that they infact have a huge impact on young impressionable children and teenagers who read their magazines.

Another report said that “if the modelling industry causes eating disorders such as anorexia why are we in an obesity epidemic”….Well here’s your answer. When impressionable people read these magazines and see beautiful people being paraded around they can start to feel bad about their own appearence and develop a low self esteem which can lead to them either finding ways to “better” themselves by reducing the amount they eat OR taking “comfort” from food to help them cope with their feelings about themself.
So these companies need to take a long hard look at themselves and decide what they want….a world full of fake beauty or a world full of real people who love themselves for who they are.
